We are delighted to announce the launch of our first soft chew formulations

For more than a decade, Summit Veterinary Pharmaceuticals has supported veterinary surgeons with high-quality veterinary specials designed to help address otherwise unmet patient needs. By understanding patients and the realities faced by owners, we help veterinary surgeons make individualised treatment plans more achievable. The addition of soft chews further expands our range of available dosage forms, which already includes tablets, oral liquids and reconstitutes, transdermal gels, powders and oral pastes, alongside flavoured options.

The owner’s ability to administer medication is often an overlooked factor in achieving successful treatment outcomes. Even the most effective treatment only works if given consistently and as prescribed, making ease of administration an important consideration in the real world.

This has been a collaborative journey with the goal of creating a great tasting product, without compromising the active ingredient. Developing a pharmaceutical product in a soft chew format presents unique challenges, requiring careful balancing of acceptance factors (aroma, flavour, texture) with the formulation of a stable, consistent product. Throughout the process, our focus has remained firmly on maintaining the quality that clinicians expect.

The introduction of this dosage form opens new possibilities for veterinary pharmaceutical delivery. Soft chews offer a practical alternative where traditional administration methods may present challenges, helping to reduce barriers to treatment and support better compliance.

This expansion reflects our continued focus on identifying and addressing unmet treatment needs among veterinary patients. Every patient is different, and expanding the range of formulations available gives clinicians greater flexibility to tailor treatment decisions to the individual patient and the practical realities faced by owners.
